Royce Freeman will not play in Las Vegas Bowl
Oregon’s Royce Freeman celebrates a score as the Oregon Ducks take on the Oregon State Beavers in the 121st Civil War football game at Autzen Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017.(
Oregon Ducks running back Royce Freeman has decided not to play in the Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday against No. 25 Boise State, Ducks coach Mario Cristobal said Thursday.
Freeman is the Ducks’ all-time leading rusher but is also projected as an early- to mid-round NFL draft pick next April.
Cristobal said he generally would like to see players take part in bowl games, but was "absolutely not" disappointed in Freeman’s decision. Cristobal added that the Ducks have plenty of running backs behind Freeman.
Defending national champs Clemson Tigers are the No. 1 team in the final College Football Playoff rankings.
